Verizon Purchases Alltel - Can you Hear Chad Now?

Finally, after years of rumors Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ), the nations number 2 carrier, will purchase America's fifth largest wireless carrier Alltel Wireless. Verizon, which is a joint venture of Verizon Wireless and Vodaphone (NYSE and LSE: VOD) has agreed to purchase Alltel for $28.1 Billion. This merger will give the Basking Ridge, New Jersey based company 80 Million customers, surpassing AT&T to be America's largest cellular operator. Alltel and Verizon have quite a bit in common.
